Compared to who. Idearc will file for bankruptcy. RHD (Dex) will soon follow and when the dust clears Yellowbook will reap the rewards. Yellowbook is far from going down in flames.
I'm curious to why you would say this.

yellowbook sucks. All their reps look like cheap used car salesmen (and haggard, chain smoking women) who couldn't finish college.

Yes, Yellowbook is a joke. I used to work for them. They only sell on price and thier products are a joke, nobody uses them. Check the web stats, yellowbook.com is ranked in the 5,000's on alexa.com, while superpages.com and yellowpages.com are both in the top 1000. Yes, Idearc filled bankruptcy, but only because they spun off from Verizon and could not carry that much debt. They are actually evolving into and "advertising" company and not just a "yellowpages" company like Yellowbook.

First of all someone who speaks in absolutes on any topic is usually not that intelligent, which makes me think that the reason the last poster used to work for yellowbook is because they were under performing. As for the Alexa.com reference one web site does not confirm or deny the viability of a company. FYI Dex filed for bankruptsy too. Yellowbook is the only national independant yellowpages company that hasn't filed for bankruptcy. Must be because "nobody" uses them right??. I'm just glad that bankruptcy isn't part of yellowbooks evolution. Interesting how there are a large number of former idearc reps going through yellowbook training right now. Hmmm.... jumping ship I think. Somehow i feel this company is better off without you.

Yellowbook sucks. If you think they don't it is because you suck, or are stuck with them. The reason that they suck is not because they are not a viable advertising vehicle. It is because management refuses to accept the advertising realities of today and they dwell on the past, and now nonexistent, glory days of phone book advertising.

lee schultz, yellow book rep, sore up and down we were looking at a month to month arrangement. he did the old bait and switch and now they are chasing us for a year's contract. phone calls, letters, the whole game. they have already lost major advertising from others I have let know about this.
all the way up through management, they have been seriously remiss in taking care of this. they want the money but not the work.
Yes, yellow book does indeed suck.

You mean you signed a contact for a book that comes out ONCE A YEAR and think all you have to do is make ONE MONTH'S PAYMENT?
I worked for Yellow Book for two years, left on my own to start my own business. Worked for some good folks, but realized that this wasn't for me.
Partly because the folks I dealt with (independent businesses) were generally jerks. Yeah, sure, folks wanted a good deal (nothing wrong with that), but I'd patiently explain this is a monthly charge for a year-long advertisment, and folks ... like you ... would walk away from their obligations in a heartbeat.
You figured you could do that with Yellow Book 'cause we're not from town. It wouldn't be like stiffing the print shop down the street or some other local business who might mention it to others. I even attended church with folks who acted like they were God's best friend that on Monday morning would skip on their obligations before the second cup of coffee.
Yes, there are some bad apples in advertising sales. And there's a lot of temptation (as a rep) to oversell, over-promise and the like. But it doesn't pay off in the long run. I just saw a lot of business people willing to stiff Yellow Book "just because."

To all you pro YellowBook pukes. Love the new "eco-friendly" size books your are putting out. They are just do darn cute! Ah, eco-friendly my ass, your books are a joke, no content what so ever.

Actually, I like the smaller size. Easier to keep in the car and the trunk ... and when I need to find a number, I look it up instead of paying a buck or so for information (and I've tried the "free" information services ... takes too long and is usually wrong) and "surfing" on my blackberry just ain't for me ...

Yellowbook screwed up my ad! http://bit.ly/cj3DBU
Excerpt:
Below is the timeline and series of events that took place with Yellowbook and I, resulting in a wait of 21 days to get an online ad updated, but it was wrong. It contained 3 spelling errors that were not located in my original request. I'm still waiting to get the errors (that Yellowbook made) corrected.
I will not be using Yellowbook anymore. I hope your experience with them (if any) goes better.

F*** yellowbook!!!....dragged me through a three week interview process and "went" with somebody with more experience.....what??....I had years of direct sales experience with a college degree....unprofessional f***s....I'm going to go work for their competitor which I had a job offer with but turned them down because I thought this was a good opportunity but after hearing so many gruntled employees that have worked there...I'm kinda glad they didn't scoop me up.
