View Full Version : Great springboard to medical and pharmaceutical sales

As a former uniform sales partner who left for pharmaceutical sales, I would only recommend working here if you are:
1. Right out of high school (you don't need a degree), with no sales experience/need a stepping stone to professional sales. The salaried training program is what outside companies respect about Cintas, as it allows them to poach recently trained Cintas reps who want to make a better salary in professional sales.
2. Someone who will accept spending 8 hours a week doing telemarketing "phone blocks" while being micromanaged by a sales manager who wants to know every hour how many appointments you logged.
3. Tolerant of a culture of group think based on the Cintas bible. You will find in the culture book that Cintas does not encourage independent or innovative thought, as there is a system. Most amazing, the CEO has always been one of the Farmer children, currently Scott Farmer. I thought that nepotism was dead, especially for a publicly traded company. All of senior management consists of "lifers" and friends of the Farmers.
4. Desirous of employment security and understand that you will not receive raises after several years unless you accept a promotion. You will cap out at a base salary in the $55k to $60k range max even if you perform well for a decade. Cintas boasts of 39 consecutive years of earnings, and that bragging right comes at a tremendous cost to the sales partners and employees in general.
I very much appreciated my time at Cintas because they trained me and provided 16 months of sales experience where I made President's club in my first year and made Achiever's club in my final quarter.
Cintas is a good sales opportunity, but not for the longer term.

Everything the above poster wrote is true. Cintas is great to have on your resume for B2B sales. I was there for only ten months, worked for the biggest micromanager I have ever dealt with, and was contacted by a recruiter for pharmaceutical sales. I got the pharma position and I'm making the best money of my life. The best part is, no phone blocks and no a.d.d. Manager breathing down my neck.

I also agree with the above post. 100% ACCURATE! I am a diamond level rep and made 100k last year and hate my job! Is this how it is supposed to be?

lol, I'm in your exact same position. Made this company so much money and if I have a bad week I still get spoken to like I may lose my job.
Any company that has such a high turnover rate is a red flag for anyone looking to work for them. Cintas sales reps are like cattle, period.

I can't understand why they want to treat their sales people this way. At least at most companies, they pay lip service to the importance of the sales force.

The good thing that I realized about myself, life, and a career is that money really isn't the key to happiness. Because I've made 6figs with this company and HATE going to work on monday because my manager, like most in this Cult (i mean company), are all shady

Just out of curiosity, why do you call it a cult?

cult - pejoratively refers to a group whose beliefs or practices could be considered strange or sinister.
This is how the middle management operates.

All the above postings are correct. I was at Cintas for a little over a year and now work for an amazing medical device company and am making the best money ever! Not to mention, no more phone blocks, 7 am meetings, updating cintergy, stupid reports and an over bearing micro managing sales manager! Life is good after Cintas!! And in reference to the cult comment: all you have to do is read "The Spirit is the Difference" (book they give all new hires, it's like their bible) to see what kind of person they will mold you into and that you must be. Even at all the sales meetings, medical and pharma jobs are talked down upon but only because they know how much turnover they have and EVERYONE who leaves always goes to medical and pharma sales. Medical and pharma companies love hiring people from Cintas~

I couldn't agree more with all the previous posts (even though they are not recent)...they describe life as a Cintas Sales Rep spot on. I have been at Cintas for one year, gained some great sales experience, been a top performer, worked my butt off....and completely dread my job. Do you have any advice for someone in my position and how to go about moving forward to a different type of sales? Do you recommend sticking it out longer?

Usually the 2 year mark shows stability. I know it is tough! As long as you are hitting your number, continue to network and get out!! PC and diamond levels are nice but lets be real. They really dont mean shit! With all of the BS reports and rankings, I can make one heck of a brag book!
I was there 4 years, 2.5 years as a diamond level FS rep and 1.5 years as a FS sales manager. I never missed my number and still felt I was on the chopping block. I made good, not great money for my performance but well underpaid for the business Cintas generated. Not to mention, the MDR role is such BS it kills motivation. Why should I go get kicked in the face in an outside role and the MDR get handed over sales leads and make more money. It is rediculous!
I am now in the device world and it is completely different. Potential to make 50% more cash is there wtih none of the micromanageing and self reporting. I literally went through micromangaging and Cintas withdrawl. I thought I wasnt working hard enough because it is that different. Once you get through that it is smooooooooth sailing.
my 2 cents.

Why would any medical company hire people who sold uniforms? That's pretty retarded. That's sort of like General Electric hiring people from Walmart.

Great company to learn the foundation of shady sales. If you have a moral foundation this company is not for you. Great experience - absolutely. You will learn the bad part of selling from Cintas sales managers.

You need to reach out to some recruiters. Have you signed up for Medreps.com. That website sends listings of med and pharma jobs out.
With 2 hrs at cintas, a bio degree, and hospital exp, you should have no problem getting a med job
