I am interested in PB to get some outside sales experience. However, I know that some similar companies usually start with terrible pay/bonus. Is it possible to make a decent living on PB salary/bonus.

Also, do they pay car allowance?

base salary for entry level is $27, though the salary doesn't go up significantly after that unless you are in a senior level major account rep. I'm a senior territory rep and make about 65. not bad, could do better. they just implemented a new car allowance system that does gives you a set amount based on your area. Mine is about $270, then they pay per mile based on the average cost of gas in your area plus the upkeep... right now is about 20-cents a mile.

If you can afford it, its a great stepping stone to get into bigger and better things... I stayed exactly 12 months and now work at Stryker Ortho... Top reps here make around 300k avg

First of all...bullshit. Average at Stryker $300k? Nice try. Plus, you are probably an asst. to the territory rep, which means you make shit.

Anyone here in the Memphis area? Anyone straight up? I have a job opening at a 10BB Medical Device Company in the Memphis/Little Rock area. It is a good gig.

Base is low and you won't make any other money for a couple months. But it is a GREAT stepping stone into pharma. I was recruited after only 6 months. Work hard and get good numbers, it is your ticket. I was also recruited and never even had to look for a pharm job!

They will find you in different ways. Someone who they place from your company may give them your name as a good candidate. Or they may know one of your accounts and the account person may reccomend you. There are a number of ways like that.

Sometimes when someone leaves a company, they will give a recruiter an entire rep contact list.

Yeah, when a company pisses someone off and they leave, they may try to get back at the company by helping other employees leave. Of course they may also get a fee for helping to recruit others as well.

I started out at Pitney making $23k base salary four years ago. Total compensation first year was high 40's. Now that I am a Senior, I am making $36k base. Last year I made $74k total with commissions. It is definitely good B2B experience to have!

you are the small exception not the rule bud, the previous posts are more accurate- 40-50 total compensation. sorry but this is the reality.

Base is now around $35K for Pitney Bowes. Even as rough as it is now, I made $55K last year. Great experience and if you have a good manager, its not that stressful.

my base at PB was 33k as an SE1 as of Jan 2009 when they restructured the pay scale. Unless you sell the big products, commission isn't crap, but if its your first job out of college, do it. great experience and a great way to pay your dues.

Your base is slave labor and your bonus is even less.

Good luck getting into pharma. Everyone wants in and companies are only letting go. I started with PB and went to pharma and now that pharma is dried up it's tough to transition into device or anything else. Pharma reps are black listed from most "sales" jobs.

I dont buy that. If you can show a record of accomplishment, you can get into other sales positions. I have known several who have done so.

One issue though is that if you have been in pharma for a long time, you will likely have a large base salary. Many sales positions will be mostly commission based. So employers will think that you wont be willing to give up the cushy base.

you should only accept a position with pitney bowes if you are right out of college. Pitney bowes is the "boot camp" of sales and that is what it should be used for. Work your @$# off for 6 mo or so and MOVE ON. The company is in a severe decline due to the move from paper to electronic, the problems within the postal service, and the legacy products they push you to sell. Also, the management is sketchy at best and blames all of their problems on the reps. Moral of the story: Get in and more importantly GET OUT!

I am in Memphis -- over 12 years in outside National Account Sales. Any Memphis jobs open in Medical Device Sales> I know I could do it!
