I know a lot of b2b reps used to use some jobs like copier sales to get experience to get into pharma. I am interested in leaving pharma and getting into some other types of sales.

Other than med device sales, what recommendations does anyone have for finding a b2b sales job that can improve on a 100k salary/bonus income, with car, benefits, etc.

May I ask why you are leaving Pharma because I was actually interested in getting into pharma sales.

Since you mentioned that you were interested in areas other than device, you may want to consider medical capital equipment sales. If you have any experience operating in a hospital setting (particularly dealing with administration) that can give you a foot in the door.

And dont believe any bullshit about pharma being a detriment on your resume. If can a record of success and articulate how you were responsible for that success then you are fine.

Right now, good luck finding a B2B job with this kind of set up.. Openings are sparse, and pay is decreasing with sales, while quotas keep going up regardless.

Pharma isn't bad, but I have been doing it over 10 years. I make pretty good money, but I want to make more.

Medical device positions don't pay that high of a base salary either- Typical base is 0-60k and uncapped commissions. The most lucrative medical sales jobs have lower bases salaries and unlimted commission potential- ala stryker. In most divisions, they are w2 reps but don't have any expenses paid or have a base after 6 mths. Medical device co's want someone who is confident of their sales abilities and don't have to rely on a high base salary like pharma sales.

Your base salary may depend on the length of the sales cycle. I work in med device and the sales cycle for what I sell is 6-12 months, so somewhat long as the equipment is very expensive. Especially on the bigger sales of 1/2 million+, so this is why my base is near 100 and my commision is around 100. In this economy though i would reccomend selling equipment where docs. get reimbursed on using it so you can pitch it as a money maker. Otherwise, it is a lot more likely you will hear "I will wait until things pick up." Also, any sort of equipment that do elective procedures, be somewhat leary of these elective procedures have gone downhill, i.e. dermatology equipment, lasik, plastic surgery etc etc.

Is your quota staying reasonable in this economy?

Yes it is reasonable, some months I do really well, other months...I zero out. That being said my equipment is 75,000 to 250,000 dollars and most offices only buy this sort of equipment every 10 years.

I am lucky too because my company and manager tell me "Hey you are doing a good a job, I know it isn't easy, but you are profitable for us...keep doing what you are doing and when the economy comes back you will be #1."

The key thing is, find equipment to sell that makes offices money every time they use it. Many times, they can't afford not to buy it.

You can get some good info here. You just have to sift through the crap. It actually has a better ratio of good info than the pharma site I think. Of course there are no where near as many posts.

The REAL key is having a company manager who, even in these difficult times, will still tell you you are doing a good job.
